New Senior Care Service Provides Seniors First-Rate Care at Home
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 28, 2021) — CarePods, a new and innovative senior care solution for older adults is now available in Charlotte, Fort Mill and Rock Hill. CarePods was created with the sole purpose of helping older adults stay at home while accessing high-quality senior care at a price they can afford. A CarePod is a group of 25 older adults from the same local community who each wish to age at home receiving affordable, non-intrusive care while navigating life on their own terms. After serving as an executive in the senior housing industry for over a decade, CarePods Founder and CEO Katie Davis created CarePods out of a desire to expand the senior care options available today and improve conditions for seniors, their families and senior care professionals.
“Anyone seeking out senior care whether it be for themselves or a loved one will tell you that the process is both overwhelming and extremely expensive,” says Davis. She continues, “Both the rising cost of senior care and the average wage of $11.60 per hour for caregivers in North Carolina present significant challenges for the industry as we look forward. Said another way, how can we truly improve the quality of care for seniors when caregivers can make more working as a customer service associate at Target than they can caring for older adults?”
By assigning and caring for clients within a defined geographic radius from the comfort of their own homes, CarePods not only keeps their operational costs down but are also able to pay above-market salaries starting at $20.00 per hour to their CareTeam and offer consistent scheduling to maintain staff retention. Clients pay a fixed monthly subscription fee of $1,195 which includes regular home wellness visits and care by a Registered Nurse, a personalized therapeutic exercise program with monthly home coaching visits from CarePods’ Doctor of Physical Therapy, Julie Brauer, a 24/7 emergency response service through MIT technology partner, Q Medic, a pharmacist to monitor their medication regimen and an assistant who visits twice weekly to help with scheduling and other needed support. For clients who would also like daily meals delivered to their home, they have the option to add CarePods’ meal plan to their monthly subscription for an additional $400 per month. Additionally, there are no long-term obligations and clients can cancel or change their service for any reason with 30 days notice.
“Whether by choice or by default, most Americans will choose to age in their home. What makes CarePods so unique is that it’s purpose-built for aging-at-home and that it’s offered at an accessible price,” Davis said. “It really works too – we’ve had success lowering the number of hospitalizations and negative health events, stabilizing medical regimens, and helping provide our clients and their family caregivers with tools and resources to improve the physical and mental strains associated with aging.”
Davis’ business model for CarePods is ahead of its time coming to fruition prior to the COVID-19 pandemic when restrictive policies in traditional senior living facilities were at an all-time high. “The pandemic has obviously taken a disproportionate toll on the aging population, affecting those living in and caring for those living in senior care facilities deeply. We can do better and solutions like CarePods are needed as we determine how to best care for all seniors,” says Davis. “Aging is an achievement; not an illness and everyone deserves access to high-quality senior care in their home at a price they can afford.”
CarePods is now enrolling older adults in or within a 15-mile radius of downtown Charlotte, N.C. and within a 15-mile radius of Rock Hill and Fort Mill, S.C. with the goal of growing regionally and nationally over time. To find a Pod near you, register here.
