Frequently Asked Questions

Because it is such a unique concept, exploring CarePods as an option for yourself or a loved one raises a number of questions. To assist you in better understanding how CarePods works, and in determining if it’s the right solution for you, we’ve compiled some of our most frequently asked questions below. Simply click each question to reveal the answer, and contact us with any additional questions not covered here.

Am I too old/young for CarePods?

Age is an achievement, not an eligibility requirement. Unlike institutional models of care, we work hard to avoid segregating people by age; which makes your CarePod diverse, local and infinitely interesting. Said another way, our services are appropriate and beneficial for any older adult who wishes to age at home, independently and sustainably.

What happens as my care needs change over time?

We meet with you in your home to gain a better understanding of your needs initially, and monitor those needs on an ongoing basis. Should you or your loved one need additional support (help with general grooming, bathing, medication reminders, etc.) we will recommend, onboard and oversee additional home-based services from a local home care or home health provider. In our experience, clients who use the core CarePods service can add up to 5 hours per day of home care services and still save money when comparing monthly fees at local assisted living and/or memory care communtiies. Individuals requiring significant, 24/7 clinical support and/or monitoring are likely to be best served by a senior care community or by a Hospice provider as they near end of life. In the event this occurs with a CarePods client, our service includes helpinig you navigate that transition so you’re never alone.

Can I customize my CarePod for a lower monthly cost?

Short answer: no.

Long(er) answer… Each component of the CarePods service model, down to what you eat and what goals you set for your life, is individualized. But, our bundle of monthly services is fixed, which allows us to hire and retain the highest quality team members by providing them with a consistent schedule, higher pay and excellent service ratios.

Will there be increases to my monthly fee?

Yes. If you remain on service for an extended period of time, you can expect that you will see an increase to your monthly fee. CarePods is a new concept and a new business model. As we navigate and learn from our experiences or as business conditions (wages, cost of insurance, etc.) dictate, we may need to raise fees to maintain our standard of care. However, at our core, CarePods is passionate about providing affordable, common sense care and is fundamentally designed to minimize healthcare costs. We will do our best to minimize increases but if needed,  increases will be communicated in writing with a 30-day notice to allow you time to plan accordingly.

Is CarePods similar to assisted living or memory care?

Our goal is to help you age safely at home instead of in a community. We provide care coordination and an at-home, affordable safety net with the goal of delaying the need for institutionalized care. Upon receiving your information, we will schedule an in-home, free consultation to assess your needs, goals and desires, both short- and long-term. Should your needs (emotionally, physically or financially) suggest that you require or would benefit from specialized care at a facility, we will provide you with recommendations and connect you with our care partners who can serve you accordingly. We will always act with your best interests and wishes in mind.

Can my pharmacist write prescriptions for me?

In North Carolina, pharmacists cannot prescribe medication directly to customers. Pharmaceutical oversight by an independent, clinical consultant is important to us. Adults over the age of 65 are on an average of five medications, prescribed by different doctors for different reasons. This can create confusion and misdirection which is why medication errors disproportionately impact older adults, leading to a decrease in quality of life or harmful side effects which can snowball into a hospitalization or worse. Our pharmacist monitors any new and existing medication orders on an ongoing basis to ensure you are taking your medication properly and to make recommendations to you and your care providers. By having an expert dedicated solely to their needs, our PodMembers benefit from a whole-person approach to pharmacological intervention.

Does CarePods provide home care or home health services?

CarePods is not a licensed home care or home health agency, as defined in N.C. Gen. Stat. 131E-136(2). However, we know and recommend certified home health and home care companies in this area and as part of our monthly fee, work in coordination with them as needed to oversee your care, ensure a positive experience and to minimize unnecessary cost.

Are CarePods services available 24/7?

CarePods services are available to you during the week and weekend. Our regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. After-hours and on weekends, our service includes 24/7 emergency response and passive activity monitoring through our technology parter, QMedic.

How much does CarePods cost per month?

We offer two programs at CarePods. Clients pay an annual fee of $500 for both and a monthly fee of $950 or $1,195 depending on which program they select. Clients who elect to add meals to either plan pay an additional $400 per month.

Am I locked into a contract for a specific term?

CarePods members will sign a contract before receiving service, but can cancel with 30 days written notice at any time for any reason.
